Counseling for Children of Incarcerated Parents
We recognize the profound impact that parental incarceration can have on children. Our Counseling for Children of Incarcerated Parents program is designed to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where children can express their feelings, build resilience, and develop the coping skills needed to navigate this challenging experience.
Our program is designed for children of all ages who have a parent currently or formerly incarcerated. We offer services to children at different stages of development ensuring that the support provided meets their specific needs.
Our Services
Individual Counseling: Our trained counselors offer one-on-one support tailored to each child's unique situation. These sessions provide a safe space for children to explore their emotions, process their experiences, and develop strategies to cope.
Group Therapy: We facilitate group therapy sessions where children can connect with others who share similar experiences. These sessions foster a sense of community, reduce feelings of isolation, and help children learn from one another’s coping strategies. Group therapy also focuses on building social skills, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
Family Counseling: We understand that the incarceration of a parent affects the entire family. Our family counseling sessions aim to strengthen family bonds, improve communication, and provide strategies for managing unique challenges. We work with caregivers to create a stable and supportive environment for the child.
School-Based Support: We collaborate with schools to provide additional support for children of incarcerated parents. This can include training educators to recognize and address the unique needs of these children, offering counseling services, and advocating for an understanding and inclusive school environment.
Emotional and Social Skill Building: Our program includes workshops and activities that focus on building emotional intelligence, resilience, and social skills. Through play therapy, art therapy, and other interactive methods, children learn to express their emotions in healthy ways and develop the skills they need to navigate relationships and life challenges.
